Located in the tranquil Ungasan Village of Jimbaran, within the South Kuta District of Badung Regency, Balangan Beach was once esteemed for its seclusion. Contrary to the bustling beaches of Kuta, Kerobokan, or Seminyak, laden with tourists and vehicles, Balangan offered a serene escape. However, its secret is out. More and more travelers, particularly those with a penchant for surfing and the allure of secluded spots, have set their sights on this quiet beach.
Our group’s journey to Balangan Beach began with a bus ride from our hotel, navigating through increasingly developed areas, past newly built houses and villas. Despite its once-hidden status, evidence of its rising popularity is clear from the well-paved roads. Yet, the narrow paths hint at its not-so-distant past of tranquility and seclusion.
Arriving after a short 30-minute bus ride, we were greeted by the stunning sight of Balangan Beach. Stretching across approximately 1 kilometer, and nestled between two coral cliffs, its beauty is breathtaking. Despite the crowd growing larger by the day, Balangan Beach maintains a sense of peace and privacy. With few people around, walking along the shore is a tranquil experience, offering a quiet, almost private beach atmosphere.
The beach is well-equipped for tourists, with tents and benches aligned for those seeking sun or shade. Surfers, in particular, are drawn to this spot, especially during the daytime. Morning visits promise cooler waters and fewer crowds, but taking photos near the cliff edges requires caution against unexpected waves.
For the best experience, visiting Balangan Beach in the afternoon is recommended. The setting sun casts a beautiful light, perfect for photography. Yet, afternoon visits mean braving the intense heat. Fortunately, local stalls and cafes nearby offer refreshments like young coconut water to cool off.
Balangan Beach has certainly shed its label as “hidden” with its increasing popularity among tourists. Accommodations and villas are rapidly appearing along the road to the beach, signaling its welcoming to a wider audience seeking the unique beauty and serenity of Bali’s once secluded spots.
